FAQs
What is place-based design?
We specialize in place-based design. That means rooting our design in the natural world, working with local artists and makers, and using as many local/original materials as possible. We focus on collected and personalized spaces full of grounded and meaningful pieces.
What are found & collected objects?
Found and collected objects are items you find along the normal path of life. They are items that you love. A souvenir from travels or a cool rock you picked up on a hike. Curating those items is what makes a house feel like home. We thrift, we reuse, we upcycle, we take care of the collection of a life well-lived.
We prefer to work with items you already own or to source locally & second hand. We take a sustainable approach to sourcing materials, furnishes, and fixtures. WHY? It is more affordable for you - we keep items out of the landfill - you end up with a unique space filled with unique items!
What is people-based design?
We also specialize in people-based design. Spaces should be a holding place for the collections of our lives and experiences. They should be eclectic, complex, and ever evolving because that is what life looks like. Well-designed spaces look their best when lived in - our space should work for us, not us working for our space. We create spaces designed for the natural flow of life.
What do you mean by multiple price points?
We believe EVERYONE should have a space they love. We also believe money should be used to make memories, not buy stuff. How does it work?
We work at multiple price points and are happy to accomodate small budgets. Each project is case by case but booking a consultation is a great place to get started and talk numbers.
We prefer to use items you already have in your home to make your space beautifully yours without adding to the landfill and spending a ton of money on newly fabricated items.
We love to reuse materials and find creative solutions to get the most bang for your buck.
What if my home is older or needs a lot of work?
We never underestimate a space. We work with the history of a home, not against it. That means we are experts in solving complex design challenges. We love to problem solve a space and we are happy to work with a contractor to get the desired outcome.
Does local art make that big of a difference?
Yes. Pieces made by people who understand the region always ground a space. Supporting local art means keeping your money local and sustaining a creative community.
